People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) comprise an underutilized population of potential employees proven to be a positive influence on coworkers, customers, the community and a company’s bottom line. Through survey data, case studies and individual success stories, this report demonstrates how workers with IDD provide both talent and productivity. Abilities Work
Florida's Employment First Initiative has developed the Florida Abilities Work Web Portal and Help desk to help employers find qualified candidates with disabilities who are ready and able to work in their communities and provide them with information that would help with their hiring decisions. The web portal offers employment information for both employers and job seekers.
Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD)
APD supports persons with developmental disabilities in living, learning and working in their community. Contains an extensive resource manual and information on office locations throughout Florida.
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
This comprehensive Web site that explores individual careers based on specific skills and interests. Each summary includes answers to the following questions: What is this job like? How do you get ready? How much does that job pay? How many jobs are there? What about the future? Are there other jobs like this? Where can you find more information?
The Career Cruiser
This career exploration publication, intended for eighth-grade students, provides self-assessment activities to assist students in thinking about the relationship between personal interests and career goals. Charts display sample occupations in 16 career clusters. Occupational descriptions, average earnings, and minimum educational levels required for jobs are also listed. The site includes a manual, teacher's guide, career planning poster, and link to FL DOE products catalog.

Educator’s Toolkit on Career and Education Planning
This resource was developed to assist teachers in planning a comprehensive middle school career course. The toolkit provides easy access to classroom activities, lesson plans and related web-based resources. Lesson plans, student handouts, a glossary and websites for supplemental information are provided with each module.
Employment First Initiative
Florida became an Employment First state by Executive Order in October, 2013. Employment First is both a philosophy and policy. It means that employment is the first option for all individuals, including those with significant disabilities.
Explore Work
Explore Work provides free training online modules developed by Workforce Innovation Technical Assistance Center (WINTAC). Students with disabilities can explore post-school topics such as career planning, workplace readiness, self-advocacy and more.
Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
DVR provides services for eligible persons with physical or mental impairments designed to enable them to prepare for, get, keep, or regain employment. Youth services include job-site assessment/accommodations, job placement, job coaching, on-the-job training, and supported employment.

Integrated Service Systems at the Point of Transition for Youth with Significant Disabilities: A Model that Works (pdf)
Educator resource describing the Transition Services Integrated Model that combines school and post-school resources in a student-driven approach to transition planning. Paid employment with supports before the student exits school results.
Competitive Integrated Employment Toolkit
National Technical Assistance Center on Transition’s (NTACT) Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) Toolkit (2017). The toolkit was developed in accordance with the requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act), as amended by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as a resource for use by educational and vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies to improve post school employment outcomes for students with disabilities. The toolkit was developed to facilitate the collaboration necessary to implement secondary transition services across agencies at the state, community and student levels and increase the use of evidence based practices (EBPs).
Mapping Individualized Learning Plans
An Individualized Learning Plan is a key tool for helping youth, including youth with disabilities, take critical first steps to prepare for college and careers. The Office of Disability Employment Policy, along with partners Social Dynamics, the Altarum Institute and the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth, recently launched two products to provide a snapshot of how ILPs are being implemented nationwide: an interactive policy map and a brief on Individualized Learning Plans Across the U.S. The map provides information about state ILP status, specific ILP policies and how students with disabilities are being included in these important college and career readiness tools.
MyCareerShines
This online planning tool is a comprehensive career planning system. With MyCareerShines, Floridians will be able to explore careers, identify personal preferences for future employment and learn about the educational requirements for specific professions.
mySkills myFuture
This U.S. Department of Labor electronic tool helps workers or those looking for work identify occupations that fit their particular skill set, learn more about suggested employment matches, apply for a job, or locate a local job training program.

Work Based Learning Experiences Timeline
This resource illustrates a range of work-based learning experiences appropriate for elementary through postsecondary. The experiences begin with activities such as self-exploration and career exploration at one end of the scale and progress to internships and paid employment at the opposite end of the scale. The timeline is found on the National Technical Center on Transition (NTACT) website within a document entitled, Top NTACT Resources for Transition Specialists.
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Flash Training Series

The Division of Youth Services presents the “Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Flash Training Series.” These “Flash Trainings” are brief (5 minutes or less) lessons focused on specific WIA Youth program topics. They are designed to provide information and direct those working with youth to tools and resources to help them best serve program participants. The first topics in the series include the following: the 10 WIA Youth Program elements, exit policy, finding youth program resources, waivers, and youth councils.
