The vocational group at CREST has 31 students participating in different vocational environments with several successful school-based businesses. The Dolphin Café is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Students make and distribute menus, shop, cook, set up and clean up the café. Fellow students earn "dolphin dollars" for good behavior during the week and spend them at the café. CREST Crafters is a group of students who make all kinds of crafts which are sold at a local bank. Students make holiday bows, necklaces, stationary, and photographic tiles. Students also have both an herb garden and a vegetable garden. Veggies are sold to staff and used at the café. New this year is The Independent Coffee Shop where students make muffins and coffee for staff, and CREST-Mart school store where students can purchase school supplies with dolphin dollars.

Students with intellectual disabilities operate a Laundromat from within the Community-Based Instruction classroom where they complete laundry tasks for school groups including NJROTC, Scallyways (the school store), and maintaining tablecloths and linens used for different events. Students are responsible for the inventory of laundry materials, and items to be washed, dried, folded and pressed/ironed. Students work together to calculate bill and deliver items with a bill to the customer. Students work in shifts and small groups to ensure laundry is completed as required.

Items such as clothing, paper, pencils, folders, and pens are donated to the store for students in need. Students are trained in store to organize and maintain inventory of donated items as well as market the store and create an awareness of the store to solicit donations.

CBC sells balloons and stuffed animals. Students take orders throughout the day, and the Career Preparation class blows up the balloons and delivers them during 6th period. Students know every part of the business such as ordering, making deposits, and completing paperwork. They also recycle paper and plastic bottles.

Mickens' Specialty Cards produces handmade greeting cards for all occasions, although the majority of business is derived from the Christmas holiday. For the last two years, it has entered into an agreement with the River Ridge High School’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America to market and distribute its cards and share in profits from those sales. FBLA has also assisted in producing a catalog of specialty card products.

The Mustang Market sells balloons and flower arrangements, cards, school supplies, stuffed animals, and candy arrangements.
The Goldmine Boutique is a thrift shop full of “like new” used clothing, shoes, jewelry, signs made for teachers out of wood, benches, and lanyards for name badges. Students and staff access the shops to buy items during lunch.

Teachers choose a reading day for students in their classes and order lattes or hot chocolate. OJT students decorate a cart, put on their chef coats, deliver the orders to the classrooms, collect the money, and count it. Order forms are given to teachers in advance to get a count of orders and what period they are to be delivered. Students also have a school store, a newspaper delivery service, and a recycling program.

The coffee shop offers staff hot coffee and tea, iced coffee, and homemade biscotti during 1st and 2nd periods. Delivery is provided. Recycling is also offered one day per week. A copy service will offer teachers the opportunity to allow students to do their copying for them.

Since 2007 the Snore-No-More Coffee Shop has prepared, marketed and served a variety of hot and cold flavored coffees to the students and staff at OFHS. The benefits of this enterprise include the development of real-world marketable job skills, customer service and social skill development, teamwork and getting along with others, task initiation, and positive public relations for the students with autism. Donations were made to several areas of the school by putting ads in the school paper, buying adaptive PE equipment for our students, and assisting the ESE department. It’s a win-win-win!

Venice Indian's Trading Post is a school-based store where transition students sell items they have purchased as well as crafts and scarfs that they have made. Students learn to work with inventory, money and customers to prepare for the world of work. They are also learning how to market their product.
