Brief Description:  Project Hidden Treasures is a community-based vocational assessment (CVBE) project wherein the school district has partnered with the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Hidden Treasures Resale Shops to provide retail department rotation experiences.  Plans are underway to expand the project to have students who are truly “hidden treasures” design and develop a teen department that is managed by students.

The ESE/SS Department in partnership with The PEER Group of Sun Up/Abilities Resource Center in Vero Beach recently co-sponsored PATH to a Dream Transition Conference for parents of children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities grades 6-12 at the VBHS Freshman Learning Center.  The attached brochure was designed by the ESE/SS Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and was distributed via mail and backpack to approximately 140 Indian River County families.  The focus of the conference was on the Planning Alternative Tomorrow’s with Hope (PATH) process which is a powerful planning tool used for individuals and groups to work toward their dreams and/or vision for the future.  Members of the ESE/SS PAC have received training in the PATH process from the Florida Inclusion Network (FIN) and will be facilitating the process for families of students with disabilities as we move forward.  The conference was referred to as a “mountaintop moment” by many of the approximately 50 parents and those in attendance.  Vendors from 16 local and state agencies were on hand to provide resources and information for parents of students with disabilities. Our vision is that this will become an annual event!!
