School-Based Enterprise

A school-based enterprise (SBE) is defined as "a set of entrepreneurial activities undertaken by students that provides an economic, social, and educational return to the student, school, and community. Student efforts are designed to enhance personal responsibility, an appreciation of risk vs. reward, and confidence in achieving and maintaining independence" (Gamache & Knab, 2008, p. 6)

Students involved in SBEs gain business management skills, analytical skills, social and community skills, and personal skills (Gamache & Knab, 2008, p. 7) as well as demonstrate improvement in academic and employment achievement, relationships and reciprocity, cognitive performance, beliefs, attitudes, values, health and well-being, and civic engagement (Gamache & Knab, 2008, pp. 8-9).
