Transportation

Promoting access to travel and mobility training that will assist students with disabilities to engage in the activities of life

Transportation is an essential part of secondary transition planning and must be considered by IEP teams to assist students to access continuing education and training options, get to and from work, purchase items in the community, see health care providers and participate in recreational and leisure activities.

Travel options vary greatly from district to district and may include travel training and financial resources. County and local transportation departments can provide information for the supports and services they offer, such as reduced rates and assistance with transportation training. Organizations, such as the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged, can assist in planning and improving transportation services for individuals with disabilities.
