Governor's Commission on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities



In July 2011, Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 11-161 creating the Governor’s Commission on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities. The new Commission will "identify barriers in state and local programs that hinder employment for persons with disabilities. They will then recommend changes to Florida laws, policies and procedures that can help remove those barriers and increase employment and job opportunities for persons with disabilities."

On November 1, 2011, Governor Scott announced the appointments of the first 13 members to the Commission:

  • Jack D. Felts, district manager for Publix Supermarkets Inc.
  • Michael "Mike" Hansen, director of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities
  • Susanne F. Homant, president and CEO of The Able Trust
  • Suzanne S. Hutcheson, president and CEO of Helping People Succeed Inc.
  • Jordan T. Knab, 52, formerly principal investigator and director of Project 10 STING RAY at University of South Florida St. Petersburg; now Founding Dean, Dan Marino Florida Vocational College
  • Scot M. LaFerte', vice president of human resources for Universal Orlando
  • Jim Landsberg, equal opportunity officer at the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity
  • Robert M. Lynn, volunteer advocate for persons with disabilities
  • Mark McDuffie, retired United States Air Force staff sergeant, small business owner, and founder/CEO of the non-profit organization Wounded Warrior Fishing
  • Aleisa C. McKinlay, incoming director of the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Julio F. Suarez, director of diversity outreach for Darden Restaurants
  • Marvin A. Tanck, president and CEO of Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Inc.
  • Steven R. Wallace, president of Florida State College at Jacksonville

The Governor's Commission on Disabilities and the Clearinghouse on Disability Information have been discontinued. All content and referral services are now being managed by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities ( To speak with a disability specialist, call 1-866-APD-CARES (1-866-273-2273).
