This 350 page report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) in the United Stated Department of Health and Human Services contains descriptions and data on the state of the nation's mental health. 

132 data tables include national and state-by-state data describing 

  • prevalence of mental health disorders in adults, children, and special populations such as the military, nursing home residents, inmates in correctional facilities, and children in the welfare system
  • suicide death rates
  • substance abuse rates
  • providers and settings for mental health services
  • payers and payment mechanisms 

A glossary and lists of medications prescribed for mental health disorders and substance abuse are also provided.
