Students with special diplomas and those standard diplomas who are low achieving will participate in this enhanced CTE program that develops specific job skills and monitors student attendance. The pilot site grant will support hands-on experience for the Culinary Arts, Practical Arts, Career Education, and Career Preparation courses associated with the Hospitality and Construction industries.

This one-year program is designed for students with disabilities who have a goal of employment and are in their last year of high school. Students must be at least 18 years old, demonstrate a desire to work, and be able to follow directions. They must also demonstrate social and communication skills, have independent toileting and feeding skills, and meet dress code requirements.

Project SEARCH is a nine month intensive internship for students with disabilities ages 18-22 who graduated from high school with a special diploma. Project search is a collaborative job training program between Orange County Public Schools and Quest Inc., Vocational Rehabilitation, Agency for Persons with Disabilities, and our business partners: Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, Florida Hospital East, Florida Hospital Orlando, Winter Park Memorial Hospital. Students receive instruction in an on-site classroom environment for a small portion of the day. However, the majority of their day involves hands-on work experience with support from job coaches and a Transition teacher. Students rotate through various departments every nine weeks to gain broad work experiences. Student must apply for these programs.

Students ages 19-22 who apply and are accepted into this program are transported from a local high school to Winner Palmer Hospital daily. There they learn appropriate work related behaviors and skills by rotating through a variety of jobs with support from the teacher, paraprofessional or hospital mentor. Students also receive travel training using the public transportation system. Program goals are to support students in becoming independent, contributing members of the community and in gaining and maintaining employment.

Students ages 19-22 who apply and are accepted into this program are transported from a local high school to the Orlando World Center Resort by Marriot daily. Students learn hospitality industry skills and related work behaviors including grooming, hygiene, communication skills, following dress codes and workplace schedules, completing tasks, and taking initiative. Students also receive travel training using the public transportation system. Participating in this program allows students to diversify their training and increase endurance and stamina while working progressively longer periods of time on site with the teacher, paraprofessional, or Marriott mentor.

Students ages 19-22 who apply and are accepted into this program are transported from a local high school to the Goodwill Work Activity Center where they have the opportunity for intense employability training and paid employment through contract work. Training is provided in adult work-related behavior such as following a workplace schedule, completing tasks, and taking initiative. Students also receive travel and social skills training. This site also offers a Family Support Group which meets monthly.
