Plan to Achieve Self Support (PASS)
PASS is a Social Security Administration employment planning process for people with disabilities who are eligible for or receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and who want to work but need some financial assistance to do so. Approved PASS plans describe the steps SSI recipients will take to achieve their employment goals, including required education or training, computers, vehicles, or other equipment. SSI may provide all or part of the funding for approved items.
SSI recipients who wish to apply for a PASS may contact the local Social Security office, specialists or organizations that have contracts with SSA, Employment Networks in the Ticket to Work program, or Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) counselors. Information on the program is also available on the SSA PASS website. Local Social Security offices can be found by entering a zip code on the SSA Local Office Search webpage.
For DVR to assist with benefits planning, individuals must be DVR eligible with approved Individualized Plans for Employment. To apply for DVR services, individuals can contact the nearest DVR office via the DVR Office Directory at the bottom of the Vocational Rehabilitation homepage.
Individuals with disabilities may also want to contact the local SSA or DVR office to find out what other local benefits planning is available.
